[Golden, Colorado] – July 25, 2024 – The United States Marine Corps Memorial, a revered symbol of honor and sacrifice, has been desecrated with graffiti reading “FREE GAZA” between the night of July 24th and the early morning of July 25th. This act of vandalism has deeply saddened the community and those who uphold the memorial’s mission to honor the brave men and women of the USMC.
The USMC Memorial stands as a tribute to the courage and dedication of the Marines who have served and sacrificed for our nation. Maintained by the USMC Memorial Foundation, this sacred site relies heavily on volunteer efforts and donations to preserve its dignity and purpose.
“The defacement of this Memorial is not just an attack on a monument, but on the values and sacrifices it represents,” said Paula Sarlls, USMC Memorial Foundation President. “We urgently need the community’s help to restore the Memorial to its rightful state.”
“Men and women have fought and died for freedom of speech since the beginning of our nation. And we support that. Freedom of Speech does not include defacing property. Repairing the damage caused by this criminal act of vandalism will have a steep cost for our organization,” Sarlls added.
Upcoming 47th Anniversary Celebration:
The Memorial’s 47th anniversary celebration is scheduled for August 24th, 2024, just a month away. This annual event is a significant occasion that brings together veterans, families, and supporters to honor the legacy of the USMC. This year’s celebration will feature a special performance by patriotic rock artist Dave Bray USA, known for his heartfelt tributes to the military and first responders. Attendees will hear inspiring stories, enjoy live music, and learn about the latest advancements in cancer research and support services.
