Please join the USMC Memorial Foundation as they celebrate Veterans Day at the Memorial and collect Toys for Tots in support of the Marine Corps Reserves program to help children enjoy Christmas. The boxes will be in place from 10:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m. for toy drop off.

Lieutenant Colonel Luis O. Izquierdo, USMC

Lieutenant Colonel Luis O. Izquierdo was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in May 2005 after graduating from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration. Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo attended The Basic School (TBS), Delta Company, from June 2005 until December 2005. Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo then assisted the Officer Selection Officer in his hometown of Miami Florida until he checked into the Ground Supply Officers Course in Camp Johnson, NC in March 2006.

Upon graduating from GSOC, he reported for duty to the Training and Experimentation Group, I MEF, Camp Pendleton California. As the Fiscal Officer, he coordinated all support for the training conducted by the Special Operations Training Group and Tactical Exercise Control Group.

In October 2007, he was transferred to 9th Communication Battalion, I MHG, as the Supply Officer. He deployed to the Al Anbar Province of Iraq from April 2008 until January 2009. While there, he supported all the supply requirements for I MEF’s communication infrastructure throughout the AO.  Upon his return from deployment, he checked out of 9th Communication Battalion and checked into 4th Maintenance Battalion in May 2009. He served as the S-4/Supply/Fiscal Officer for 4th Maintenance Battalion, 4th Marine Logistics Group.

In July of 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo departed Charlotte, NC for Okinawa Japan. Upon arriving, he was assigned as the 3d Maintenance Battalion Operations Officer. His duties included running daily operations and future for the battalion training and operations section. In June 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo took command of Intermediate Maintenance Company with over 200 Marines and Master Labor Contractors (MLC) within the command.

In July of 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo departed 3d Maintenance Battalion, checked into resident Command and Staff College.  After completing CSC in June of 2016, Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo checked into the HQMC, Plans, Policies, and Operations Current and Future Operations Section. Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo became the Current Operations Group Section Head, where he kept track of and briefed all USMC related operations, exercises, and Theater Security Cooperation events to senior leaders through the CMC and SECNAV.

In July of 2018, LtCol Izquierdo departed PP&O and checked into Combat Logistics Battalion-3 where he took command of Support Company, providing intermediate supply and field level maintenance support to all Marine Corps Base Hawaii units. During his tenure, LtCol Izquierdo completed an IA tour to the Office of Security Cooperation-Iraq as the End Use Monitoring Officer.

In July of 2021, LtCol Izquierdo checked into 3d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) where he currently serves as the deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for the G-4 and oversees/tracks all logistic operations and support for 3d MAW and its subordinate organizations.

His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Gold Star in lieu of third award, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Lieutenant Colonel Izquierdo is married to Kellie Buck-Izquierdo of Akron, Ohio and has two children: Mika Kellie Izquierdo (9) and Luis Orlando Izquierdo III (7).
